This project is a co-creation of artist Patrick Earl Hammie and dancer/choreographer Endalyn Taylor. It explores, discusses, and reframes the ongoing cultural and critical contributions of black ballerinas in dance and visual culture. I collaborated with the costume design, for five cross-generational ballerinas. They performed original pieces in May 2018 at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City.
(original text from the event page) An evening of powerful solo works will include historical or pivotal works in addition to original work choreographed by Endalyn Taylor and Darrell Grand Moultrie. These powerful dances join the dancers personal truths into a metaphoric embodiment of their imagined self selves, featuring national and international artists Ingrid Silva (Dance Theatre of Harlem, New York City), Cira Robinson (Ballet Black, London) as well as three other intergenerational ballerinas.
